Abstract

Veen Emo, the Mother Goddess of the Water world, with her many names (Vellamo, Vuotar, Äinemöinen) is associated in Finnish folklore with the oldest of healing ointments, undulating wavy lotions, the balmy balsams. Raising her knee from the sea world, she lets the golden eye, looking for a nest, circling over her, lay her eggs on her lifted knee, thus creating the world together with Ilmatar, Daughter of Air.
